At SCHEELS, ‘it’s all about the people.’ This all-sports retailer got its start at the turn of the 20th century, when founder Frederick A. Scheel purchased a hardware and general merchandise store in Sabin, Minnesota. A lot has changed since then, including SCHEELS expansion beyond the borders of Minnesota. And now, AZ is getting its very first store.

The 220,000 square-foot retail store will open in 2023 in the Chandler Fashion Center, according to a press release Thursday.

“This new Arizona SCHEELS will be home to entertainment attractions, specialty shops and boutiques for sports fans, outdoor enthusiasts and customers seeking a wide variety of fashion, footwear and home décor… the store will feature a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, a wildlife mountain, Fuzziwig’s Candy Shop, plus a restaurant and more,” according to the release.

SCHEELS has been employee-owned since 1991, and has been breaking its own record for being the ‘World’s Largest All Sports Store’ since 2004.

“The Chandler store will employ approximately 400 associates, all employee-owners, who look forward to bringing their expertise and enthusiasm to the community.”

The AZ location will be the company’s 31st, and will take over the space formerly occupied by Nordstrom department store in the Chandler Fashion Center.
