In a statement, Harkins Theatres owner Dan Harkins said, “I’m thrilled for the opening of our dine-in theaters combining the magic of our state-of-the-art cinema and chef-inspired cuisine,” adding, “Bringing these together is sure to make the Harkins Ciné Grill moviegoing nirvana.”

Similarly, president and CEO Mike Bowers said, “it is especially gratifying to return to Paradise Valley with our beautiful new theatre design that will offer the perfect combination of an immersive movie experience and restaurant-quality dining. We look forward to welcoming guests to settle into a comfy Ultimate Lounger, enjoy a delicious meal, relax with [a] handcrafted cocktail, and lose themselves in the exceptional cinematic experience of Harkins Ciné Grill.”

Today, the company operates roughly 30 theatres across four states including Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, and California.

However, the Ciné Grill concept is something entirely unique for the nearly 90-year-old company. Each theatre features a full-service scratch kitchen, as well as a full bar with curated cocktails, local beer, and wine, all of which can be enjoyed during the movie in signature plush leather Ultimate Lounger reclining seats. Moreover, there’s also an indoor/outdoor bar and lounge that opens “onto an expansive patio that is perfect for private events and as an additional gathering place for guests to enjoy each other’s company before and after the movie.”

Harkins Theatres’ illustrious history dates all the way back to 1933 when current owner Dan Harkins’ father, Red, opened the company’s first outpost in Tempe at just 18 years old.
