Think less beachy, more winery, but in a casual way. Susan Wilcox’s catering company, turned eatery and market, The Herb Box, will open a second Scottsdale location this spring at 7000 E Shea Blvd. Speaking with Phoenix New Times, Wilcox said the Shea location, which was delayed due to COVID, will offer ” ‘more casual service, but very elegant, with high-end food and drinks.’ ” She went on, “ ‘I took a little twist down to the Southern side of the U.S.’ ”

The Herb Box, which offers savory twists on traditional cuisine using fresh, seasonal ingredients, began as Wilcox’s catering company in 1995, and the company continues to offer catering and private dining—it just does a whole lot more now.

The new location will have ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as an outdoor bar. A press release from April 23rd announced the new location will house the company’s catering business in the 6,000 square foot space, along with a larger kitchen, substantial patio, gourmet market place, and two private event spaces.

“With 25 years of catering, [The Herb Box at Shea] will have fresh new salads, dips, and charcuterie boards” as well as “all the standard Herb Box favorites” Wilcox said to What Now Phoenix. Patrons will be able to order whatever interests them from a bakery, a grab-and-go bar, a hot food bar, and a beverage bar, then they’ll choose their own seating. This way, they won’t have to wait around for a server. With expansive seating indoors and outdoors, this luxurious casual space will give diners a little more control over their dining experience.

The Shea location will be the company’s second brick-and-mortar in Scottsdale, now that the DC Ranch location closed permanently on May 3rd to make way for the space.

While we were unable to confirm an exact opening day for The Herb Box on Shea Blvd, a recent Facebook post indicates you should look for open doors in June. Another post shares, “After 13 amazing years at DC Ranch, the time has come for The Herb Box to return to our original neighborhood….Scottsdale & Shea location will open early June 2021.”

In the Press Release, Wilcox said “It feels like a homecoming and I wanted to create an environment that conveys that same feeling.”
