The coffee roasters, now run by Julia Peixoto Peters, technically started harvesting and farming the Peixoto coffee in Brazil starting in 1894, according to their website.

Peixoto grew up in Brazil and didn’t open up the first brick-and-mortar coffee shop in Chandler until 2015. Up until then, she’d worked as a lawyer for a global shipping company after coming to the US in 2002. There, she met her husband, Jeff Peters, who runs the coffee shop with her.

She told the Phoenix New Times, “I wanted to carry on the family legacy, but didn’t quite know what to do with it. We started to talk about what we could do with the family’s coffee.” She added that once her grandfather passed, she realized the family legacy would end with her father if she didn’t do anything with it.

While the coffee is still grown on the family farm out in Brazil, the beans are roasted and served inside of the coffee shop.

The Peixoto joins a list of other concepts, including another location for Spinato’s Pizzeria, coming to the Epicenter at Agratopia at 3150 E Ray Road. What Now Phoenix reached out to Peixoto Peters for details as to the opening, but she was unavailable by phone. As of now, the opening dates are slated to be announced in Winter 2021.
