The restaurant has been owned and operated by Sheldon Knapp since its inception, but now the founder will fall back to a minority position in the business, according to the company’s website. As a result, the restaurant will welcome a pair of new operating partners, including Dennis Shaw, an industry veteran with 40 years of experience, and Micah Wyzlic, longtime executive chef/managing partner of Phoenix City Grille. This is the first time the restaurant has undergone any kind of ownership changes since it first opened in 1997.
“I am completely confident that Phoenix City Grille and our incredibly loyal customer base are in excellent hands with Dennis and Micah at the helm,” Knapp said in the announcement. “I look forward to working with Dennis and Micah in my semi-retirement as well as spending more time with my family.”
Shaw maintains an impressive resume spanning four decades and includes positions such as owner and managing partner of Sam & Luca Rustic Kitchen, food and beverage director, and general manager of Las Sendas Golf Club. Wyzlic, on the other hand, graduated from Scottsdale Culinary Institute at the top of his class and initially joined Phoenix City Grille in 1999. The two new owners will use their vast experience to maintain and advance the concept in a new direction. A new bottle shop concept, Still and Barrel by PCG, is expected to debut at the restaurant by the end of the year. Additional details about Still and Barrel by PCG are forthcoming.
“I am so excited to be a part of the PCG community,” Shaw said in the announcement. “I want to get very involved, get to know the patrons here, grow the legacy that Sheldon has built and keep PCG going for many years to come. We will continue to evolve the great food and service with the same great team that has become synonymous with PCG while enhancing the dining experience and expanding our PCG roots as we evolve.”
