The new business will be located near the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Fourth Streets in a space intended to become Safe Haven Brewing before the pandemic. Daniel Castro and Johnny De Luna will now take over the 5,000-square-foot brick building to open Sana Sana Cerveceria with a 10-barrel brewing system. Greg Suchsland, a former brewer at Hangar 24, Bottle Logic, and Helmsman has been tapped as head brewer. Johnny tells What Now Phoenix they expect to open in December or January.
This is a massive accomplishment for the owners, who wanted to bring cerveceria to their home state of Arizona. Their love for their ‘cultura’ has allowed them to create a community space to enjoy cerveza together. Johnny strongly advocates for local Latino artists and has worked tirelessly to realize Sana Sana’s vision and honor their ancestors. On the other hand, Daniel is an American Brewers Guild graduate dedicated to crafting quality beer and an enthusiast of Chicano culture and history.
Together, they are creating a unique drinking experience that will be welcoming to everyone. Sana Sana Cerveceria is focused on creating high-quality beers that honor our cultura by infusing familiar flavors and traditional ingredients. Each brew serves as a narrative of heritage, transforming cerveza into a medium for community connection and storytelling. By encouraging exploration of their culturally inspired offerings, Sana Sana aims to deepen appreciation for the diverse histories that define our identity, all within a welcoming environment for conversation and community.
“Cultura plays a vital role in shaping the identity of Sana Sana Cerveceria, making it a welcoming space where the community can gather to enjoy a refreshing cerveza while celebrating our shared roots and traditions,” according to the company’s website. “This deep connection to our cultura not only enriches the experience of every patron but also creates a sense of belonging and unity among diverse individuals within the community, inviting everyone to partake in the joyful celebration of our history and values.”
