Last week, What Now Phoenix reported that a concept called “Off the Record” was heading to the historic Knipe House at 1025 N 2nd Street. Now, a PR representative for the company moving in has confirmed that will be one of two concepts opening, the other of which will be the Sottise Sound Room.

TJ Culp of Restaurant Progress and Esther Noh of the Montecito Bottle Shop will also run the Sottise Sound Room, which will be on the bottom floor of the building as Off the Record moves up top.

The Sottise Sound Room, according to the e-mail, will be a modern French bistro that taps into Culp’s formal French culinary education and “audiophile antics.”

This concept will anchor the 3,000 square foot space in the 112 year old building and also offer big wines “and even bigger antique speakers.”

Off the Record upstairs will be a more comfortable and intimate cocktail experience.

Restaurant Progress and The Montecito Bottle Shop sit next door to each other, with the latter focusing on natural wine, beer and cider. Restaurant Progress focuses on “New American” dishes, so Culp is excited to display some more of his formal education.

As of now, no official opening date has been set for either, but should be ready by mid-November or December 2021
