Happy Honu Shave Ice is opening a new location at 8976 W Union Hills Dr in Peoria, according to a recently signed lease.
Owner Desmond Martin told What Now Phoenix, “This shop will be serving up Premium Authentic Hawaiian Shave Ice desserts, Pineapple Dole Whip, and Lappert’s Ice Cream. We do not have an exact date for the grand opening, but we are targeting the Spring of 2024.”
What’s the difference between a shave ice and snow cone? For a shave ice, the business describes it on their website as, “ice is fluffy and melts in your mouth. Absorbs the flavors from top to bottom.” For a snow cone, they say, “Ice is crunchy. Flavor runs to the bottom of the cup.”
Their menu has over 30 premium flavors, including four sugar-free options. Customers can also choose to stuff it with with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or their tropical-flavored mini mochi balls. Other options include topping it off with sweet condensed milk (which they call a snowcap), homemade haupia (coconut) whip cream, li hing mui powder, or chamoy and tajin.

Laura grew up in Phoenix, AZ, and was raised on “Raspados” – Mexican-style shave ice desserts. Desmond grew up in Haleiwa, HI, where Hawaiian-style shave ice was always an “after-da-beach” treat. When we finally came together to realize and integrate our passion for shave ice, we decided to pursue the craft to share that same happiness with everyone. We have been blessed with having our children (Anthony & Alyssa) champion our vision. Our dream is to provide people with the freshest, softest snow, embellished with their choice(s) of their favorite flavors and toppings. We hope that while people sit down to relax and enjoy our desserts, LIFE HAPPENS, relationships are created and strengthened, and this world is impacted by LOVE, one person at a time.”
Aside from the upcoming Peoria location, they have storefronts in Litchfield Park, Sun City, Surprise, Goodyear, Tempe, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Ahwatukee, and Glendale as well.
