A new restaurant called Aftermath, owned by David Bowman and Charles Barber, is heading for 1534 E Bethany Home Road. The restaurant, which Bowman called “New American” when he spoke to What Now Phoenix, aims to be a melting pot of different foods.
“We’re going to take ingredients we like from everywhere around the world to just make food we want to cook,” he said. “Everything is chef-driven. We’ll have craft cocktails, craft beer, craft everything.”
Bowman and Barber — who met at Zinc Bistro — have been planning this particular restaurant for almost an entire decade.
“I’ve been in this industry for years, and Charles has opened up restaurants like Hush, so we’ve been talking about it for a while,” he said. “I just have a son, and I really wanted to be able to spend time with him and raise him. Now that he’s older, we knew it was the time to open the restaurant.”
Although Bowman has been around the industry for a while, Aftermath will be the first restaurant he’s opened from the ground up. The space has been used for different restaurants in the past, including Rehab Burger Therapy.
“It’s a nice corner lot on a very exciting and busy corner. We have two giant garage doors that open up to a remodeled patio. We’ll have between 12 to 16 bar seats and we’re going to build an oyster bar into that. The demographic is great, and we’re just so excited to finally be able to do this.”
They’re hopeful the restaurant will be open by the end of September, but having faced some COVID-related delays, the date may be pushed back a little.
