Boo and Henry’s BBQ is opening a flagship space in Scottsdale, according to Mouth by Southwest.
On the business’ website they share: “Opening in 2024! – Boo and Henry’s BBQ Restaurant is in development and coming soon to bring Memphis-style BBQ to its flagship eatery in Scottsdale, Arizona.”
Capturing the essence of barbecue culture, the venture comes from Daly Thompson, who has roots embedded in the BBQ scene of Memphis. What started as Thompson experimenting in his grandma’s kitchen turned into him winning BBQ competitions, before spending 20 years in fine dining.
In the early 2000s, his culinary journey took a turn with the opening of The Pig Restaurant in Los Angeles. With locations in West Hollywood and Universal City Walk, this establishment stood as a tribute to his Southern roots.
Since then, he’s pivoted to the retail side of the business – selling various seasonings and sauces under the Boo and Henry’s name. Their award-winning “Memphis-Style Bar-BQ” can be used to marinate, baste, shake, or drizzle.
On their website, the restaurateur states the following: “Boo and Henry’s Memphis Pit BBQ celebrates the rich and savory Southern spirit nurtured by my loving parents. Born in Memphis, Tennessee during the Depression, Jeanne “Boo” and my stepfather Henry Varnell dedicated their lives to Family, Faith, Charity and Community. Food in the South, especially BBQ, was ever-present at celebrations, church socials, fundraisers and milestone events. Bringing people together, with BBQ always present, defined our lives. To this day, BBQ remains the thread that ties us all together.”
Now opening this first location, the storefront is anticipated to open next summer.
