“We’re just in the first baby infant stages of getting going,” said owner John Gleason when he spoke to What Now Phoenix on Friday. “I’m anticipating a two month buildup to open in mid to late October.”

This will be the second location for the Korean chicken restaurant, where “Bap” stands for “rice” in Korean.

“I wanted to grow the brand,” Gleason said. “I want to stay west of the Mississippi for now because of the fried chicken aspect. Phoenix is a growing market and I think it’s a really great entry level one.”

According to the website, they also offer the “Bapmobile” for catering events and private celebrations. There is a separate Instagram account for the truck to follow it around on its various adventures.

The menu consists of things like “bibimbap” meals, which is a mixture of various ingredients with rice. Diners can also enjoy Korean fried chicken, build-your-own-bap, and sandwiches.

“We’re so excited about coming into Phoenix and serving the community,” said Gleason. “It’s a place that can handle multiple locations for us. It’s always a possibility to add more, and I think it’s going to be really awesome to bring this to the community.”
