“We’re really excited to break through into the West Valley, and bring our concept to life out there,” Ahmad tells What Now Phoenix.

Mesquite Fresh Street Mex was founded in 2015 and currently operates upwards of 10 locations throughout the greater Phoenix region.

The company’s most recent project has been remodeling and rebranding its former Speedy Street Tacos storefront, located at 15 N 40th St. That venture is expected to be brought to life in January 2023.

“We bought the land and we’re building a brand new building,” Ahmad told What Now Phoenix at the time of the announcement. “We opened that location seven years ago, and people know that it’s associated with Mesquite, but with the new building we’re going to be changing the name and everything.”

Formerly known as Mr. Mesquite, the restaurant’s name comes from its signature cooking method, which features “open flames on real mesquite wood for a true ‘street’ flavor and authentic Mexican experience.”
