Urban Cookies Bakeshop, the Phoenix-based confectioner that 12 years ago emerged victorious from Food Network’s hit show Cupcake Wars, is ready to pen the next chapter in their illustrious saga this fall with a Scottsdale outpost at 8776 E Shea Blvd, near the corner of Shea and the 101 freeway.

“We get asked a lot why Shea and the 101,” Shaun Breese, who owns and operates the bakery with husband Brady, tells What Now Phoenix. “We felt like this location was perfect for customers who live in Scottsdale, but also easy access to the whole East Valley. And unlike our current location that is surrounded by homes, apartments and a few local businesses, this new location is in commerce central! There are businesses and restaurants and services everywhere. We are also across the street from Honor Health Scottsdale Shea Medical Center.”

As for the timing, Shaun explained in a blog post on Urban Cookies’ website, “After a decade of dreaming and two years of planning and searching, we have finally found a home for our second bakery.”

Shaun went on to add, “There are moments in your life when it feels like all the stars align and the universe is pushing you forward. This is that moment for our little bakery. It’s time to take a leap and trust that gut feeling that tells you, you can do it.”

Describing themselves as somewhat risk-averse, the Breeses have been methodical about growing their business since its inception in 2005, weathering multiple storms and basking in the sunshine of so many successes along the way.

Nevertheless, as Shaun describes it, “There’s just something to be said for ‘when you know, you just know.’ And that’s how we felt in January of 2023, it’s time to grow the business.”

As such, by the end of the year, folks in Scottsdale and the Northeast Phoenix region will get to indulge in Urban Cookies’ award-winning cupcakes such as the Marble Coffee and Lemon Honey, Cowboy and Pineapple Coconut cookies, signature Birthday Cake and Chocolate Graham dipped cookies, Salted Caramel Nut and Double Chocolate Brownie bars, and Classic Churro and Birthday cakes, alongside all the unique and rotating flavors that make a special appearance.

“We love our central Phoenix customers, but we are so excited to get to know and serve a whole new customer base on Shea,” says Shaun. “Through the support of our local community we’ve made it 18 years, and we’re so grateful to continue our story for years to come.”
