Whereas the new 664-square-foot Scooter’s kiosk with drive-thru would be a first for Mesa, it will be the third Phoenix area cafe for the couple, who have two that are forthcoming in Gilbert.

In an email sent to What Now Phoenix, Matt Krumwiede detailed the expansion plans, explaining, “We are opening our first store in Gilbert, at 3038 E Queen Creek Rd in Mid-August. This location is under construction and we are looking to hire employees at the moment.”

Next up will be an outpost at 4580 E Pecos Road, which is slated to open late 2023 despite the fact that the permitting process began all the way back in 2021.

Lastly, Matt Krumwiede says the Mesa cafe “is under consideration for our third location,” adding, “We filed paperwork for pre-approval for this location, but it will not open for 12-16 months.”

In an interview with What Now Phoenix from March 2022 when news of the initial outposts broke, the Krumwiedes said, “We are excited to open our first two locations in Gilbert, Arizona. Both of these locations should be open by summer 2022 with plans to expand to five or more locations in the southeast Valley.”

Scooter’s Coffee was founded in Nebraska in 1998 by Don and Linda Eckles who staked their reputation on four “keys to success: find a great location and stay committed to high-quality drinks, speed of service, and a BIG smile.”

In fact, it’s that mission and the company’s origins in Nebraska that speak to the Krumwiedes.

“As Nebraska natives, the success and growth of Scooter’s Coffee in the midwest is what drew our interest in this business. Their core values are Love, Integrity, Humility, and Courage—and who doesn’t want to work with a company who has LOVE as part of their values?”

Today, the company’s portfolio includes upwards of 500 locations, with a menu that spans smoothies, teas, speciality cold and iced drinks as well as classic espresso options, and a food menu with breakfast favorites such as the Maple Waffle Sandwich, Bacon Ciabatta Sandwich, and Caramelicious Muffin.
