“We are so excited to finally bring Someburros to the Norterra community,” Vasquez tells What Now Phoenix. “We’ve loved that area for a long time, and when we finally got to be in a location surrounded by Fry’s and Chick-fil-A, we knew it was a great location where we could serve the community with our great food, and also make it a better place by giving back.”

The brand’s origins can be traced back to Poncho’s, a restaurant opened by the Vasquez family’s matriarch, Isabel, in Phoenix in 1972. It wasn’t until 1986, however, that Isabel opened the first Someburros with her husband Eusevio’s son George and his wife Mary. Since then, grandkids Tim, Amy, and Jennilyn have taken over operations and expanded Someburros’ footprint to include 14 outposts throughout the greater Phoenix region, as well as a sister restaurant, Isabel’s Amor, in Gilbert.

Writing on their official website, Someburros explains, “Every dish on the menu tells the unique story of the Vasquez family…showcasing the family’s signature, time-tested recipes for authentic Sonoran-style Mexican food. Heirloom recipes perfected at home, with Abuela – Isabel Vasquez – lovingly preparing all of the family’s favorites in her small kitchen, as her nietos waited patiently nearby to taste and share.”

Someburros newest storefront will be part of a retail center helmed by Phoenix-based Red Development, which spans a whopping 109,224 square feet. Last month, one of its first tenants, grocery juggernaut Fry’s, announced an opening date set for last Wednesday, Oct 5. However, it appears the store is yet to open.
